Designed by Paul Burnham Architect, this Cottesloe House is located in the beach side suburb of Cottesloe in Perth, Western Australia. At a glance it looked like just another luxurious contemporary house, but it surely is a beautiful and comfortable dwelling nevertheless. Plus, the architecture of the house also gives a sense of privacy.
The house uses a lot of concrete. All of the walls and the ceiling in some of the rooms, for example, are made of walls. Besides that, wooden planks and stone tiles are also used for the flooring. The planks are warm dark brown, while the stone tiles are dark grey. The colors of the interior are very neutral. Some rooms have shades of brown and white as their dominant colors; some other have shades of grey as their main color scheme. The color combination brings serenity and elegance to the rooms.
The lighting in this house looks especially nice. There are huge glass windows, and even a glass wall in the living room. These windows allow plenty of soft sunlight into the rooms, making them look bright and warm. In addition, the electric lightings are also plenty, and they are strategically placed and beautifully designed. The color of the lightings is mostly warm yellow, and this gives the house a warm and welcoming feel as well as elegance and a touch of luxury. In the living and dining area, there are two strips of lightings that hang from the ceiling, stretching across the room almost from end to end. Thanks to the abundance of light they give off, the room looks even more beautiful than it already is.
The furniture of this house is contemporary. The sitting areas are filled with simple sofas that have comfortable cushions arranged neatly on them. The dining tables are long rectangular slabs of wood with modern wing chairs or leather dining chairs around them. The home theater system is fitted into the wall so that they looked as if they are a part of the wall itself, and I think this is a clever arrangement. There are several fans in the rooms, so you don’t have to worry about stifling air in hot days. Lastly, on the balcony there are several other comfortable seats where you can sit and enjoy the fresh air and the view.
